BREAKING THE STEREOTYPE

At one point, going to the gym is something I do just to simply improve my social life. I hit the gym if I just want to, no fixed programs, no diet plans, and basically no commitment since I was one of those ladies who believe that if women lift weights, women will look like the Hulk. There were very few women who lift weights. Furthermore, I had this idea that I simply had to exercise and lose weight to ‘look’ physically better…skipping meals, over exercising, and doing things that jeopardizes my health and strength. I believed in those false ideals and methods several years ago, however, it is the total opposite of what I believe and do now.

As a woman who loves food, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is distinctly challenging. Setting and reaching a fitness goal is not all cupcakes and rainbows, I tell you. I have to make sure that I get enough nutrition from what I eat every day most especially protein and fibers. I have to also exercise on a daily basis may it be through going to the gym, playing sports and martial arts or simply going to places on foot. I have to remind myself that everyday is a God-given chance for us to get stronger, to eat better and to live healthier.  And as I do these things to improve myself, I realized that people will develop and learn something from going to the gym and choosing healthy options; Consistency, discipline and self-control, and self-motivation.

And yes…indeed, there’s always a FIRST TIME for everything. I was wrong when I said I couldn’t and would never join a bodybuilding competition. In March of year 2017, I joined one and landed on the 2nd Runner up spot. The process is not easy though, especially when it comes to self-control for food. Food is like a drug to mankind. It will hurt. It will take time. It’s a roller coaster ride. It requires hard work and discipline…dedication and sacrifices, a lot of it. You need to push yourself and make healthy choices. There will be tons of temptations and discouragements. You’ll be challenged physically and mentally every single day… but once you get there, it’s all worth it.

Anybody can really do it. One just needs to be stronger than our excuses and strive to be the best version of ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
